I used to be deep into gardening. Several years ago when we moved from the city to the country, I dove all the way into growing our own food from scratch. Starting the seeds, all the things.
I didn't want to be limited to the plants at the garden stores when I saw the HUGE variety of seeds I could buy - like the sky was the limit, right?! So many fun experiments!
However, I didn't know anything about starting plants from seed so naturally I Googled a lot and luckily a friend shared their favorite gardening book that I have since repurchased 3 times (it's that good) that had incredible info for starting from seed.
Some seeds must be stratified to germinate.
Some must go through a freeze and thaw process.
Some must be planted just slightly under the surface.
Some need to be planted deeper.
And those methods are not interchangeable. If you decide all seeds should be planted half an inch deep in May - guess what, those seeds that need to be stratified, freeze/thaw or just be on the surface aren't going to germinate.
You can't force them to grow just because you want to plant them the way you want to plant them. Nature says, sorry, but no.
Now, do we think a seed that must be planted shallow is wrong? Of course not - we accept it for the unique characteristic it has and plant it in a way that will nurture it best.
If a banana tree can't grown and produce fruit in Nebraska, do we think there is something wrong with the banana tree? No. We accept that it thrives best in a tropical environment. On the other hand do we think that there is something wrong with Nebraska because banana trees can't grow here? Again, no.
We are the same. We humans ARE nature, just like the seeds.
So why do we expect all humans to learn the same way? To speak the same? To look and act the same? Why?
And maybe you are thinking, duh - I don't expect all humans to be the same, that's common sense, Megan.
But, really think about it.
Have you ever thought:
"If that person could just (fill in the blank) like me, it would make their life so much easier/better/happy/whatever?"
Or do you turn this dialog inward on yourself?
"If I could just do/be/think/look like (fill in the blank) I would be so much happier/successful/less depressed/etc?"
THAT'S what I want to dig into with this story.
Why do we so often feel all these negative things like frustration, anger, disappointment, resentment?
Because we are constantly going against our nature!
At our core we know it is incorrect yet we still follow these expectations, to try to force ourselves into a mold that was never meant to fit.
It's no wonder we are unhappy, depressed, lacking self confidence and don't trust ourselves. We are constantly fighting our nature or told that what we feel is correct for us is wrong. We can't "germinate" and grow into what we are meant to become in this state.
So how to we start to nurture the authentic seed within us, our true self?
- Start noticing what feels natural for you. When you pause all the chatter around you, stop and witness what feels correct for you. Do you work best late at night, but don't because that's not what your partner does? Do you naturally enjoy small gatherings, but feel like there is something wrong with you because we are told big crowds are the best way to meet people?
- Pay attention to the moments that you feel frustrated, angry, disappointed and resentful. This is a flashing sign that you are going against your nature.
Truly, just start with those two things -
- Notice what feels natural
- Pay attention to frustration, anger, disappointment and resentment as moments to reflect
Self-awareness is the first step to self-acceptance.
When we begin to accept ourselves as we were truly meant to be, we can finally start deconditioning all the junk covering our truth.
And that’s when we start experiencing more peace, satisfaction, success, and delight in life.
If this lands and peaks curiosity within you, Human Design is an incredible tool to help illuminate who you were meant to be. I’d love to guide you on this journey of self-discovery.
