Another family chat at the kitchen table about no means no, boundaries, being brave to stand up for others. The media spotlight shining on the horrific acts of men to women tells me it's time to talk about this. Again.

We educate ‘till we are blue in the face.
We provide resources and support.
We hold them accountable for their actions.

Educating - after the fact.
Supporting - after the fact.
Accountability - after the fact.
This is all a bandaid. Just treating the symptoms.
Sure, bandaids are necessary. We need tools to treat the harm, we aren’t going to leave our sisters to suffer.
But they don’t stop the next injury from happening.
Our fight has been reactionary.
How do we protect us before the harm is done?
How do we kill this rot at its SOURCE?

Bar
That is where the rot lurks.
Are they going to let women in locker rooms?
Are they going to let women in their group chats?
Are the women allowed in the man cave?
When we have no access to the source, to call it out at the source, how do we fight it?
WE don’t. The MEN have to step up. Speak up.

Silence is acceptance
Silence is approval
Not all men. You’re not the bad guy, but when your silence is complicit, condoning, accepting, it becomes all men.
There is no one else left in the room, guys.

The joke no one calls out
The derogatory name no one calls out
The private photo shared no one calls out
The conquest story no one calls out
The illegal actions no one calls out
Where do you draw the line? How far does it have to go before you speak up from the INSIDE?
Because there is no one else left in the room to do it for you.
